FISHERMAN: any natural or legal person who carries out acts of fishing (actos de pesca).
ACT OF FISHING (ACTO DE PESCA): any of the following:
- a)Any operation or action carried out with the purpose of catching fish, mollusks, crustaceans, and other species of aquatic fauna and flora for commercial, industrial, scientific, or sport purposes.
- b)The exploitation (aprovechamiento) of the beds, bottoms, waters, beaches, riverbanks, coasts, and ports for the rearing, reproduction, and dissemination of the aforementioned species.
AQUACULTURIST (ACUACULTOR): a natural or legal person who carries out the cultivation of living organisms in aquatic and marine environments.
FISHERY PRODUCTS (PRODUCTOS PESQUEROS): products, by-products, or derivatives coming from the capture of marine flora and fauna and from aquaculture (acuicultura)*.
COASTAL RESOURCES (RECURSOS COSTEROS): biomass constituted by the fauna and flora in the littoral zone and in the maritime area, whose habitat extends up to a distance of 55.5 kilometers seaward.
MARINE RESOURCES (RECURSOS MARINOS): includes all the resources found in the ocean: flora, fauna, minerals, and others.
COMMERCIAL FISHING (PESCA COMERCIAL): an act of fishing (acto de pesca) intended for commercialization.
MARITIME HUNTING (CAZA MARITIMA): the capture of cetaceans and pinnipeds, reptiles, and marine birds, as well as the exploitation (aprovechamiento) of their breeding and rearing grounds.
SPORT FISHING (PESCA DEPORTIVA): an act of fishing (acto de pesca) carried out for pleasure, recreation, or exercise.
PROCESSING PLANTS: industries dedicated to the processing, transformation of fishery resources, or both activities, for the purpose of producing products for human and/or animal consumption.
TRANSPORTERS: natural or legal persons dedicated to the land, air, or maritime transport of fishery products.
RECEIVERS: facilities dedicated to the purchase or receipt of marine products.
