These "Protective Zones" (Zonas Protectoras) constitute Internal Natural Reserves of the Indigenous Reserve of Bajo Chirripó, intended for the protection of watersheds (cuencas hidrográficas), to serve as Flora and Fauna Reserves, and as "Bridges" for the migration of animals between the different protection areas of the "La Amistad Biosphere Reserve (R.B.A)"; no farms (fincas) may be established in these areas, nor may their natural character be altered by inadequate practices such as reforestation with non-native species.
Any timber extraction permits must have the due authorization of the Dirección General Forestal, CONAI, and the indigenous community.

This concerns the Cerro Itocälä (Matama), on the northeastern boundary of the Reserve; the heights of the Fila de Hatama bordering La Amistad National Park, at an altitude exceeding 1600m; the cerros Ayil (Cerro Bola) and Balar Bata to the northwest; Cerro Cabebata (Quetzal) and the Xarari watersheds (cuencas), in the center of the Reserve; as well as the forest of Tsipiri-Vari near Moravia.
2- Furthermore, the following new areas are added as "Protective Zones" (Zonas Protectoras) of the forest of the Indigenous Reserve of Chirripó:
- a)"Naqebata Forest Reserve" (Cerro Congo), bounded by the Pacuare River, the Vereh River, the San Rafael Stream (Quebrada San Rafael), and the two streams (quebradas) that bound the Indigenous Reserve at the height "Los Naranjos" in San Rafael de Vereh.
- b)"Selico Bata Forest Reserve", an area corresponding to the ridge (fila) between the Pacuare and Chirripó rivers, at an altitude exceeding 1600m, and bounded to the south by the Fila del Cerro Burui and to the north by the Paso de Tulesi.
- c)The hills surrounding the Moravia plain (Cerros Cälbilicäbata, Tcamacälä, Cocotsacu, Cabebata).

Area of the Reserve: 2 757 hectares (The Sala Constitucional, by resolution N° 014772 of September 1, 2010, annulled the reform made to the Reserva Indígena de Guaymí de Osa by Article 1 of Decreto Ejecutivo N° 29957 of October 26, 2001. Therefore, the reform carried out by Article 1 of Decreto Ejecutivo N° 22202 on April 1, 1993, regarding this Reserve, regains validity. Likewise, said vote indicates that this judgment has declaratory and retroactive effects to the effective date of the annulled norm, without prejudice to rights acquired in good faith. However, in accordance with the provisions of Article 91 of the Ley de la Jurisdicción Constitucional, the effects are dimensioned in the sense that the declared unconstitutionality does not affect the agricultural practices currently being carried out under the challenged decreto ejecutivo, but they will have a validity of one year from the moment this judgment is notified; once the given term has expired, said activity must cease in its entirety. Consequently, the text shown is the modification introduced by Article 1 N° 22202 on April 1, 1993.)
(Note from Sinalevi: By Article 1 of Decreto Ejecutivo N° 20469 of May 20, 1991, it was indicated that the Reserva Indígena Guaymí de Osa is an Independent Reserve from any other indigenous reserve and will henceforth enjoy the same rights and duties that the other legally recognized indigenous reserves possess.)
RESERVA INDÍGENA GUAYMÍ DE ABROJOS DE MONTEZUMA(*) (Thus modified the former name by Article 1 of Decreto Ejecutivo N° 16052 of December 3, 1984. Previously it read: "Reserva Indígena Guaymí de Abrojos, Montezuma") The Reserva Indígena Guaymí de Abrojo Montezuma is located on the cartographic sheets of the Instituto Geográfico Nacional, scale 1:50,000, Canoas 3641 IV and Cañas Gordas, 3642 III.
The Indigenous Reserve is delimited by the following coordinate points: Starting from the confluence of Quebrada Planes with the Río Corredor at the coordinate point N 292 700 E 584 450. From there, it follows the coordinate points N 292 150 E 585 350 (cerro, 490 m.), N 291 950 E 586 250. A point that intersects a path (trillo) that leads in a northeast direction to the main road going from Montezuma (Bellavista) to Planes. It follows this road in a northeast direction passing through the coordinate points N 292 000 E 586 400, N 292 160 E 586 525. This last point intersects the main road from Montezuma to Planes. From there, a straight line to the Río Abrojo, at the coordinate point N 292 155 E 587 100. From this point, it follows downstream along the Río Abrojo to the coordinate point N 291 625 E 588 350. Confluence point of a small stream on the Río Abrojo. It follows upstream along this small stream (drawn on the map by contour lines), via a straight line, to the coordinate point N 292 290 E 588 675. Point located on the Costa Rica - Panama border line. The boundary line follows the Costa Rica - Panama border line in a southeast direction, which is in turn the watershed divide between the ríos Abrojo (of Costa Rica) and Chiriquí Viejo (of Panama), to the coordinate point N 288 050 E 591 800 (Boundary Marker (Hito), 911 m.). From this point, it continues via the coordinate points N 287 950 E 591 700, N 287 940 E 591 525. This last point intersects the principal spring (naciente) of Quebrada Callejonuda, so the boundary of the reserve follows downstream along this stream to the coordinate point N 287 175 E 590 925. From this point, a straight line to the spring (naciente) on the map of Quebrada Mamey, at the coordinate point N 288 675 E 589 800. It follows downstream along this stream to its confluence with Quebrada Ojo de Agua at the coordinate point N 289 075 E 588 425. It continues along this latter stream downstream to its confluence with the Río Abrojo at the coordinate point N 289 000 E 588 310. From there, the boundary follows downstream along the Río Abrojo to the coordinate point N 288 950 E 588 150. From this point, it leaves the Río Abrojo to continue via the following coordinate points:

A point that intersects a stream unnamed on the map but defined by contour lines. It follows downstream along this stream to its mouth on the Río Corredor at the coordinate point N 289 700 E 581 575.
From this point, the boundary line of the reserve follows upstream along the Río Corredor to the coordinate point N 290 950 E 583 550. Point where a small stream defined on the map by contour lines converges into the Río Corredor. It follows upstream along this stream to the coordinate point N 291 575 E 583 175. From there, a straight line to the coordinate point N 291 825 E 583 345, confluence point between Quebradas Luis Umaña and Grande. The boundary continues upstream along Quebrada Grande to the coordinate point N 292 198 E 583 230, to then continue via the points with the following coordinates:
N 292 300 E 583 800 N 292 675 E 584 000 N 292 700 E 594 450 (starting point of this description).
