Mouth (Desembocadura): The site or place where a river or estuary flows into the sea, its area of influence extending one kilometer to each side of the river mouth, so as to complete a semicircle taking the center of said mouth as the starting point.
Endangered or threatened species (Especies en vías o peligro de extinción): Those that, due to their scarcity or some other factor of their particular biology, are gravely threatened with disappearance from the country, and whose survival is unlikely if the causal factors of their disappearance (among others, deforestation, hunting, introduction of exotic species, pollution) continue to act upon them.
Species with reduced populations (Especies con poblaciones reducidas): Species or subspecies of wild fauna and flora, or their populations, that are likely to become endangered species in the foreseeable future, in all or part of their distribution areas; if the factors causing their numerical decline or the degradation of their habitat continue to be present; or that are rare because they are generally located in geographically limited areas or habitats, or very sparsely distributed in more extensive distribution areas, and are in real or potential danger of being subject to a decline and possible danger of extinction or to extinction itself.
Pond or pool (Estanque o pileta): The artificial water deposit, of low volume; used to simulate natural conditions in the management of the breeding stock of a captive breeding center, zoo, or aquarium, or to raise animals in captivity.
Estuary (Estero): The deposit of brackish water that penetrates the continent while maintaining communication with the sea, with 50 meters or less in width at its mouth.

Lagoon (Laguna): The natural water deposit of low volume. It may be seasonal in nature.
Mangrove (Manglar): Ecosystem dominated by a group of pantropical plant species and typically arboreal, shrubby, and associated vegetation, which have morphological, physiological, and reproductive adaptations that allow them to colonize areas subject to tidal exchange. The general landscape is dominated by the presence of estuaries and channels. Salinity concentrations vary according to the climatic season and the contribution of continental waters, with salt concentration values ranging from very low to very high.
Genetic material (Material genético): The tissues, gametes, and seeds of plants, or of wild animals.
Module (Módulo): Set of rooms that make up a dwelling.
Skin (Piel): The unprocessed epidermal tissue obtained from an animal, the normal treatment of which is salting.

Treatment plant (Planta de tratamiento): system for managing black water, soapy water, waste water, or any pollutant (contaminante) substance, where oxygen is usually incorporated and dissolved solids are precipitated.
Product: Everything generated directly by wild fauna and flora.
Natural Resources (Recursos Naturales): The set of elements that compose nature. In its most generalized sense, it is understood as land, water, air, and wildlife (vida silvestre).
By-product (Subproducto): That which is derived from a product of wild fauna or flora through a production process.
Polluting substance (Sustancia contaminante): All elements, organic, inorganic, or organometallic compounds, or their combinations, that alter the natural environment and human health and well-being. Generally, it is introduced into the environment as a by-product and waste from industrial processes or other human activity.

Family nursery (Vivero familiar): Place intended for the breeding and reproduction of plants with less sophisticated methods than commercial and research nurseries. The dimensions are reduced, generally of family operation, and with low production and commercialization. The plants commercialized here must be fully established in pots or trunks. MINAE, through the Conservation Areas, shall supervise the reproduction methods and inventories of said establishments.
