1.1. SENARA: Servicio Nacional de Aguas Subterráneas, Riego y Avenamiento.
1.2. DRAT: Distrito de Riego Arenal Tempisque.
1.3. ARESEP: Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos 1.4. Irrigation District (Distrito de Riego): a physical, technical, administrative unit of an agricultural nature, in which the necessary works exist or are to be carried out to provide water service for irrigation and aquaculture (acuicultura), in order to achieve the greatest agricultural, economic, and social development of those agricultural units.
1.5. User (Usuario): any natural or legal person who owns a property and receives water within the DRAT, for use in the purposes stipulated by the SENARA Law.
1.6. User Registry (Padrón de usuarios): the registry that contains the information of the users and properties that have water service for aquaculture, which serves as the basis for calculating the amount to be paid for rates (tarifas).
1.7. Water service for aquaculture (Servicio de agua para acuicultura): the set of goods, activities, and personnel that, subject to the authority of the District, makes possible the delivery of water for use in aquaculture, in accordance with the policies approved for that purpose by the Board of Directors of SENARA.
1.8. Water rate for aquaculture (Tarifa de agua para acuicultura): the monetary compensation approved by ARESEP that the user must pay for the water service for aquaculture.
1.9. Canal Operator (Operador de Canales): a SENARA official responsible for the operation of the infrastructure for the delivery of water for irrigation and aquaculture.
1.10. Return Flow (Caudal de Retorno): the flow that the user returns to the SENARA canal system.
1.11. Alternate Source (Fuente alterna): Refers to a secondary source, independent of the irrigation system, that allows the user to attend to their activity during periods when SENARA cannot provide the required flow for the aquaculture activity.
1.12. Return Structures (Estructuras de retorno): The set of structures such as channels, gate boxes, that the fish farmer constructs to return the waters to the SENARA canal system.
1.13. Measurement Structure (Estructura de medición): all those calibrated structures that allow determining the flow delivered to the user.
1.14. Measurement Equipment (Equipo de medición): an instrument intended to measure, memorize, and display the volume of water that passes through the conduit in a given time.
1.15. Excess Discharge Site (Sitio de descarga de excedencias): a point at which excess flows (caudales de excedencias) are discharged into a natural drainage or an artificial drainage.
1.16. Excess Flow (Caudal de excedencias): flows that exceed agricultural demands downstream of the aquaculture projects.
