1.1. SENARA: Servicio Nacional de Aguas Subterráneas, Riego y Avenamiento.
1.2. DRAT: Distrito de Riego Arenal Tempisque.
1.3. ARESEP: Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos 1.4. Irrigation District: a physical, technical, administrative, agricultural unit, in which the necessary works exist or are to be carried out, to provide water service for irrigation and aquaculture, for the purpose of achieving the greatest agricultural, economic, and social development of these agricultural units.
1.5. User: is any natural or legal person who owns a property that receives water within the DRAT, to use it for the purposes stipulated by the SENARA Law.
1.6. User registry (Padrón de usuarios): is the record containing the information of the users and properties that have the water service for aquaculture, which serves as the basis for calculating the amount to be paid for tariffs.
1.7. Water service for aquaculture: set of goods, activities, and personnel that, subject to the authority of the District, makes the delivery of water possible for its use in aquaculture, in accordance with the policies approved for that purpose by the Board of Directors of SENARA.
1.8. Water tariff for aquaculture: is the monetary consideration approved by ARESEP that the user must pay for the water service for aquaculture.
1.9. Canal Operator: SENARA official responsible for the operation of the infrastructure for the delivery of water for irrigation and aquaculture.
1.10. Return flow (Caudal de Retorno): flow that the user returns to the SENARA canal system.
1.11. Alternate source (Fuente alterna): Refers to a secondary source independent of the irrigation system that allows the user to attend to their activity during periods when SENARA cannot provide the required flow for the aquaculture activity.
1.12. Return structures (Estructuras de retorno): It is the set of structures such as canals, gates, and boxes, that the fish farmer builds to return the waters to the Senara canal system.
1.13. Measurement structure: all those calibrated structures that allow determining the flow delivered to the user.
1.14. Measurement equipment: instrument intended to measure, store, and display on the indicator the volume of water passing through the conduit in a specific time.
1.15. Excess discharge site: point at which the excess flows (caudales de excedencia) are discharged, to a natural or artificial drainage.
1.16. Excess flow (Caudal de excedencias): flows exceeding the agricultural demands downstream of the aquaculture projects.
