The functions of the CORACT are based on the subsections established in article 30 of the Biodiversity Law and are supplemented with others specific to the ACT:
a. Ensure the application of policies on the matter.
b. Ensure the integration of community needs into the plans and activities of the Conservation Area.
c. Promote the participation of the different sectors of the Area in the analysis, discussion, and search for solutions to problems related to natural resources and the environment.
d. Present to the National Council of Conservation Areas the proposal for the appointment of the Director of the Area by means of a shortlist.
e. Approve the strategies, policies, guidelines, directives, plans, and specific budgets of the ACT upon proposal by the Director and the Scientific-Technical Committee.
f. Approve the operating regulations of Local Councils, management committees, and other local participation structures of the ACT.
g. Coordinate with the different bodies of the ACT the organization of activities for the conservation of the socio-cultural and natural heritage within protected wild areas and in the region.
h. Motivate the organization of communities and promote the participation of organized groups in the tasks carried out by the ACT, such as control, sanitation, environmental education, fire prevention, biological corridors, marine resources, and payment for environmental services (pago de servicios ambientales).
i. Channel information and promote its dissemination in all areas of action of the ACT.
j. Supervise the work of the Director and the established financial administration body, and may also audit the different departmental heads established in the ACT.
k. Approve in the first instance matters relating to the concessions and service contracts stipulated in article 39 of the Biodiversity Law.
l. Designate from its midst a representative to the National Council of Conservation Areas.
m. Promote the participation of the CORACT representative in the Environmental Commissions of the municipalities of the region.
n. Promote and encourage active participation by local organizations of tour guides, environmentalist foundations, and other bodies in the management and protection of the protected wild areas of the ACT.
o. Review and approve specific bans for the ACT, as well as any provision aimed at the application of the precautionary principle.
p. Serve as mediator in those conflicts that arise between the different social actors and the directorate of the ACT in matters within its competence.
q. Define specific matters for the management of its protected areas and present them to the National Council for its approval.
r. Recommend to the National Council of Conservation Areas the creation, modification, or change of category of its Protected Wild Areas.
s. Any other function assigned by national legislation or the National Council.
