This protective zone shall have as its primary objective to guarantee the water catchment process of the cantons of Naranjo and Zarcero, as well as of the neighboring cantons. Likewise, its forests shall safeguard the natural scenic beauty of that region.

Starting from a point located at the intersection of roads leading to La Picada and to El Chayote, respectively at the coordinate point 237450N-498750 E (coordinate point 1). It continues along the road that heads to El Chayote to a point with coordinates 238100N-497950 E (coordinate point 2). From this point it continues in straight segments joining the coordinate points 238600 N-497480 E (coordinate point 3) on Calle El Chayote, 239575 N-497000 E (coordinate point 4) on the Barranca River. It continues along the left bank upstream of said river to the coordinate point 240000 N-497300 E (coordinate point 5), then in a straight line heading northwest to the coordinate point 240600 N-497000 E (coordinate point 6) located on another road that leads to El Chayote. Following this road heading southwest to the coordinate point 240520 N-496640 E (coordinate point 7), continuing in a straight line to the coordinate point 240840 N-496700 E (coordinate point 8), located on a branch of the Espino River, continuing downstream of this to its confluence with another branch of the same river at the coordinate point 240780 N-496340 E (coordinate point 9), proceeding along this last branch of the river cited, upstream to its spring (naciente) interpreting contour lines at the coordinate point 241680 N-497950 E (coordinate point 10). Then it follows a southeast heading to the coordinate point 241600 N-498040 E (coordinate point 11) on a road that continues north to its intersection with the road that leads to the town of Picada, at the coordinate point 242200 N-498180 E (coordinate point 12), following this road eastward to its intersection with another road that leads to El Chayote, at the coordinate point 242080 N-498600 E (coordinate point 13). It follows this road with a general south heading passing through the coordinate point 239250 N-499320 E (coordinate point 14) and continuing along that same road that follows the high part of the water divide until joining the road indicated on the Naranjo cartographic sheet and that leads to the intersection of roads at the coordinate point 237450 N-498750 E (1) initial point of the present inscription.

This management plan for the buffer area shall promote sustainable development and shall propose the development of environmental techniques that strengthen the biological balance and production.

For the foregoing, the participation and contributions of the municipal environmental commissions of the local governments of Naranjo, Zarcero, and neighboring cantons shall be taken into account.

6975, of November 1, 1984, is repealed.

It shall enter into force upon its publication.

Esta zona protectora tendrá como objetivo principal garantizar el proceso de captación de agua de los cantones de Naranjo y Zarcero, así como de los cantones aledaños. Asimismo, sus bosques resguardarán la belleza escénica natural de esa región.

Partiendo de un punto situado en la intersección de caminos que conducen a la Picada y a El Chayote, respectivamente en el punto de coordenadas 237450N-498750 E (punto de coordenada 1). Continúa por el camino que se dirige a El Chayote hasta un punto de coordenadas 238100N-497950 E (punto de coordenada 2). De este punto continúa en tramos rectos uniendo los puntos de coordenadas 238600 N-497480 E (punto de coordenada 3) sobre la calle El Chayote, 239575 N-497000 E (punto de coordenada 4) sobre el río Barranca. Continúa por la margen izquierda aguas arriba de dicho río hasta el punto de coordenadas 240000 N-497300 E (punto de coordenada 5), luego en línea recta con rumbo noroeste hasta el punto de coordenadas 240600 N-497000 E (punto de coordenada 6) ubicado sobre otro camino que conduce a El Chayote. Siguiendo este camino con rumbo suroeste hasta el punto de coordenadas 240520 N-496640 E (punto de coordenada 7), siguiendo en línea recta hasta el punto de coordenadas 240840 N-496700 E (punto de coordenada 8), ubicado sobre un brazo del río Espino, continuando aguas abajo de este hasta su confluencia con otro brazo del mismo río en el punto de coordenadas 240780 N-496340 E (punto de coordenada 9), prosiguiendo por este último brazo del río citado, aguas arriba hasta su naciente interpretando curvas de nivel en el punto de coordenadas 241680 N-497950 E (punto de coordenada 10). Luego sigue rumbo sureste hasta el punto de coordenadas 241600 N-498040 E (punto de coordenada 11) sobre un camino que sigue al norte hasta su intersección con el camino que conduce al poblado de Picada, en el punto de coordenadas 242200 N-498180 E (punto de coordenada 12), siguiendo este camino hacia el este hasta su intersección con otro camino que conduce a El Chayote, en el punto de coordenadas 242080 N-498600 E (punto de coordenada 13). Sigue por este camino con rumbo general sur pasando por el punto de coordenadas 239250 N-499320 E (punto de coordenada 14) y continuando por ese mismo camino que sigue por la parte alta de la divisoria de aguas hasta unirse con el camino indicado en la hoja cartográfica Naranjo y que conduce a la intersección de caminos en el punto de coordenadas 237450 N-498750 E (1) punto inicial de la presente inscripción.

Este plan de manejo del área de amortiguamiento impulsará el desarrollo sostenible y propondrá el desarrollo de técnicas ambientales que fortalezcan el equilibrio biológico y la producción.

Para lo anterior se tomarán en cuenta la participación y los aportes de las comisiones ambientales municipales de los gobiernos locales de Naranjo, Zarcero y cantones aledaños.
