For all purposes of application of this Official Map Regulation of the canton of Paraíso, the following definitions shall be considered:
a. Sidewalk (Acera): Strip of land within the right-of-way, extending from the property line to the outer line of the curb and gutter, and reserved for pedestrian traffic.
b. Urban tree planting (Arborización urbana): The management of trees as a contribution to the physiological, sociological, and economic well-being of the society inhabiting cities. It relates to urban forest patches, smaller groupings of trees, and individual trees within people's residential context. Urban areas encompass a great diversity of habitats, such as streets, avenues, parks, abandoned lots, among others.
c. Public area (Área pública): That composed of public roads, lands necessary for the installation of community services, community buildings, and, in general, public-use infrastructure, and the playgrounds, parks, and sports areas necessary in the canton to meet the needs of its inhabitants.
d. Boulevard: A wide street with a tree-lined central promenade.
e. Roadway (Calzada): The part of the street intended for vehicular traffic, comprised between curbs, ditches, or drainage trenches.
f. Right-of-way (Derecho de vía): That area or surface of land, owned by the State, intended for the use of a public road, which includes the roadway, green areas, and sidewalks, with adjacent zones used for all complementary installations and works. This area is delimited on both sides by the boundaries of the adjoining properties at their property line.
g. Space for public transport (Espacio para el transporte público): Those spaces for the exclusive use and transit of public transport, including those on which the movements of people, goods, and collective transport vehicles take place, as well as those allowing their permanence, parked, or those where cargo break-up operations and other auxiliary tasks occur.
h. Interchange stations (Estaciones de intercambio): Areas permanently intended to facilitate passenger interchange between various modes of transport.
i. Official Map (Mapa Oficial): The plan or set of plans accurately indicating the position of the layouts of public roads and areas to be reserved for community uses and services.
j. Cadastral plan (Plano catastrado): The survey plan, physical or in electronic format, that has been registered in the National Cadastre. Its effects are defined in the Regulation to the National Cadastre Law, Executive Decree No. 34331-J, and its amendments or the regulations that replace it.
k. General survey plan for developments or residential complexes (Plano general de agrimensura de urbanizaciones o conjuntos residenciales): The plan containing the general design of the development or a subdivision with urban planning purposes, including area and location of lots, commercial or commercial/residential zones, streets, playgrounds, community facilities, park, forest protection areas, and reserves, if any.
l. Road provision (Previsión vial): The road width established by this Regulation for the different categories of public streets and roads defined herein; it includes the roadway, sidewalks on both sides, and green strips on both sides. The road provision shall be the regulation based on which the rules established for the acceptance of subdivisions on streets that do not comply with the regulatory dimensions established herein shall be applied, for all purposes of the respective road widenings.
m. Public transport terminals (Terminales de transporte público): Boarding points for public transport or those representing origin-destination points of the route traveled by public transport vehicles. They comprise nucleuses that incentivize the development of urban activities in the zones where they are located. Therefore, their designs must seek the formation of a polyfunctional urban center with possibilities for future growth, seeking compatibility with commercial and service activities.
n. Unidad Técnica de Gestión Vial Municipal: Municipal department responsible for the maintenance, improvement, and rehabilitation of the Cantonal Road Network, which also serves as the technical secretariat of the Cantonal Road Board.
o. Public road (Vía pública): Any land under public domain and for common use, which by disposition of the administrative authority is intended for free transit in accordance with planning laws and regulations and/or which is already de facto intended for that public use. According to their class, public roads shall also be intended to ensure aeration and lighting conditions for the buildings bordering them; to facilitate access to adjoining properties; and for the installation of any pipeline, device, apparatus, or accessory belonging to a public work or intended for a public service.
p. Transport logistics zones (Zonas de logística de transporte): A service use for a transport logistics zone is understood as that intended to concentrate and facilitate the tasks of cargo splitting and consolidation, or the parking and maintenance of heavy vehicles, as well as auxiliary tasks for the preparation of goods related to transport and the facilities necessary for such operations.
