For the purposes of this regulation, the following definitions apply:
Ø Active Recreation Areas (Áreas de recreación activa): Parks intended for recreation through physical activities such as games and sports; they shall contain urban furniture (mobiliario urbano) intended for such purposes, allowing activities that promote physical and mental exercise. These areas must be designed primarily for the recreation of infants, children, young people, adults, and older adults.
Ø Passive Recreation Areas (Áreas de recreación pasiva): Areas intended for passive recreation through the contemplation of green areas or gardens, or conversation; they shall contain urban furniture (mobiliario urbano) intended for such purposes, allowing activities that do not significantly disturb the peace and tranquility of said places. These areas must be designed primarily for the recreation of persons, especially older adults.
Ø Boulevards (Bulevares): Spaces intended for pedestrian transit in which recreational and leisure activities take place as a result of the reservation or closure of roadways.
Ø Cycle Path (Ciclo vía): A circulation axis intended exclusively for transit and the use of bicycles and human-scale vehicles.
Ø Visual Polluter (Contaminador visual): A visual polluter is considered anyone who writes, displays, traces drawings or emblems, or affixes papers or posters on the exterior part of a building, public building, wall, movable property, traffic sign, utility poles, or on any other object visibly located on or from the public road, in public spaces, affecting the aesthetics and safety of the place.
Ø Public Spaces (Espacios Públicos): All those spaces intended for public use or enjoyment such as municipal parks, children's parks (parques infantiles), parks, civic squares (plazas cívicas), green areas, gardens, boulevards, pedestrian promenades (paseos peatonales), roadsides or canton highways, communal areas of urbanizations and neighborhoods, public protection zones, green areas within roundabouts and islands on canton highways, riverbanks, and similar areas for public use.
Ø Urban Furniture (Mobiliario Urbano): Those elements of furnishing intended for the general enjoyment of users and the improvement of the conditions of public spaces are part of urban furniture (mobiliario urbano), namely: benches, gazebos (ranchos), waste receptacles, drinking fountains, water fountains, lampposts, luminaires, reflectors, special cabinets, signs, signage, works of art, among others.
Ø Pedestrian Promenades (Paseos Peatonales): A circulation axis intended exclusively for pedestrian transit, part of the right-of-way corresponding to sidewalks, incorporating green areas, furniture, and special treatment of its ground surfaces.
Ø Children's Park (Parque infantil): An area equipped and primarily intended for the enjoyment of infants.
Ø Municipal Parks (Parques Municipales): Areas intended for the passive or active recreation of residents or visitors, according to the use for which they were designed or intended.
Ø Civic Squares (Plazas cívicas): An open and spacious area equipped for the development of social, cultural, and civic activities.
