The Organic Law of the Ministry of Justice, No. 6739, of April 28, 1982, is hereby amended in the following provisions:
- a)The title is hereby reformed, the text of which shall read:
"Organic Law of the Ministry of Justice and Peace." b) The designation "Ministry of Justice" or "Justice and Grace" is hereby replaced throughout the articles with Ministry of Justice and Peace.
- c)A new subsection c) is hereby added to Article 3; consequently, the numbering of the subsequent subsection is run. The text shall read:
"Article 3.- The Ministry of Justice and Peace shall exercise its functions through the following dependencies:
[...]
- c)The National System for the Promotion of Social Peace, attached to the office of the minister, which shall be composed of: the General Directorate for the Promotion of Peace and Citizen Coexistence; the National Directorate for Alternative Conflict Resolution; the Directorate of Public Spectacles, and the National Commission for the Prevention of Violence and the Promotion of Social Peace.
[...]" d) New subsections i), j), k), l), m), and n) are hereby added to Article 7; consequently, the numbering of the subsequent subsection is run. The text shall read:
"Article 7.- The functions of the Ministry of Justice and Peace shall be:
[...]
- i)To promote and coordinate plans and programs aimed at the promotion of peace at the national level.
- j)To support, from the perspective of violence prevention, the Ministry of Public Security in matters of firearms in the country, as a means to promote a culture of peace and non-violence.
- k)To promote alternative conflict resolution as a way of developing a culture of peace, without prejudice to the other functions established in the Law on Alternative Conflict Resolution and Promotion of Social Peace, No. 7727.
- l)To foster better inter-institutional coordination, in order to fulfill the mandate of the General Law on Public Spectacles, Audiovisual and Printed Materials, No. 7440.
- m)To promote the participation of civil society through non-governmental organizations and any other type of organization dedicated to promoting peace and non-violence.
- n)Any others assigned to it by law or decree.
