For the purposes of these regulations, the following shall be understood as:
- a)Marine and Continental Areas for Responsible Fishing: Marine and/or continental areas with important biological, fishery, or sociocultural characteristics, which shall be delimited by geographic coordinates and other mechanisms that allow for identifying their limits, and in which fishing activity is regulated in a particular manner to ensure the long-term use of fishery resources, and for whose conservation, use, and management Incopesca may have the support of coastal communities and/or communities near the banks of rivers, lakes, and lagoons, as well as other institutions.
(Thus amended the preceding subsection by point 2) of Agreement No. AJDIP/236-2015 of June 12, 2015) b) Fishing Organization: legal entities made up by fishers, or by natural or legal persons, dedicated to activities related to fishing and aquaculture, with current legal status and duly registered before the Registry of Organizations of INCOPESCA, that pursue an improvement in the quality of life of their members and their community.
- c)Code of Ethics for Responsible Fishing: a voluntary instrument developed by communities or organizations dependent on fishing activity, for the management of said activity so as to guarantee a sustainable use of fishery resources.
- d)Responsible fishing: is a sustainable use of fishery resources in harmony with the environment; the utilization of fishing and aquaculture practices that are not harmful to ecosystems, the resources, or their quality.
- e)Participatory zoning: The planning and regulation of fishing is carried out in consensus with the fishers of the organizations with a legitimate interest in the process, with the objective of managing fisheries in a sustainable manner. The rules are established specifically for each zone, in accordance with a Fisheries Management Plan that must be carried out as part of the process, which is approved by INCOPESCA.
