1.1. SENARA: Servicio Nacional de Aguas Subterráneas, Riego y Avenamiento.
1.2. DISTRA: Distrito de Riego Arenal.
1.3. CGR: Contraloría General de la República.
1.4. ARESEP: Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos.
1.5. Irrigation District (Distrito de Riego): a physical, technical-administrative agricultural unit, in which the necessary works exist or will be carried out, seeking maximum efficiency and effectiveness in the use of available water resources, pursuing their comprehensive utility and guaranteeing their sustainability over time, in order to achieve the greatest agricultural, economic, and social development of the agro-productive units involved.
1.6. User (Usuario): any natural or legal person who owns a property that receives water within the DISTRA, to be used for the purposes stipulated by the SENARA Law.
1.7. Fish farming user registry (Registro de usuarios de piscicultura): the registry containing the information of the users and properties that have the water service for fish farming.
1.8. Water service for fish farming (Servicio de agua para piscicultura): the set of goods, activities, and personnel that, subject to the authority of the DISTRA, makes possible the delivery of water for use in fish farming, in accordance with the policies approved for this purpose by the Board of Directors of SENARA.
1.9. Water rate for fish farming (Tarifa de agua para piscicultura): the monetary payment that the user must pay for the water service for fish farming.
1.10. Irrigation rate (Tarifa de riego): the monetary payment approved by ARESEP that must be paid for the irrigation service.
1.11. Fish farming (Piscicultura): consists of the cultivation and production of fish through the use of methods and techniques for their controlled development, encompassing their complete or partial biological cycle in natural or artificial water environments.
