throughout the text - Full Text of Norm 183 Reform of the List of Species of Fishing and Aquaculture Interest COSTA RICAN INSTITUTE OF FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE AJDIP/183-2025, INCOPESCA Board of Directors Agreement
1-Whereas by official communication INCOPESCA-CCCT-010-2025, signed by Jesús Alfaro Rodríguez, Coordinator of the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission, the Pronouncement No. 01-2024 is submitted to this Board of Directors for its knowledge and approval, regarding the "list of freshwater fish and crustaceans of aquaculture interest in the continental, coastal, and oceanic waters of our country" corresponding to table No. 05 of agreement AJDIP-0289-2017.
2-Whereas pursuant to the express request in agreement AJDIP-094-2023, which repeals agreement AJDIP-057-2023 and in turn requested the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission to proceed with the respective review and issue an opinion and eventual recommendation to the Board of Directors.
3-Whereas for the reason of the request sent to the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission, said Commission performed a comprehensive analysis of a list provided by the Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development of INCOPESCA, taking into consideration the criteria of different Institutions such as: Parque Marino Pacifico, National Animal Health Service (SENASA), Núcleo Náutico Pesquero of the National Learning Institute (INA), Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC); Universities such as the University of Costa Rica (UCR), National Technical University (UTN), State Distance University (UNED), National University (UNA), Technological Institute of Costa Rica (TEC); Non-Governmental Organizations such as FECOP, Asociación Costa Rica por Siempre, Mar Viva, Raising Coral; Private Companies: Martec, BAZAPEZ, Camaronex; the College of Biologists of Costa Rica and a decentralized body of MINAE (CONAGEBIO).
4-Whereas according to the request issued by the Board of Directors to the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission through agreement AJDIP-126-2025, it requests the presentation of results on "The list of species of freshwater fish and crustaceans of aquaculture interest in the continental, coastal, and oceanic waters of our country".
5-Whereas through the presentation made by three members of the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission—Jesús Alfaro Rodríguez, Coordinator of the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission, María del Milagro Carvajal, representative of the National University, and Ana Gloria Guzmán Mora, representative of non-governmental organizations (Conservación Internacional)—provided a detailed explanation of the research performed in Pronouncement No. 01, as well as the respective technical analysis, issuing several recommendations.
6-Whereas among the recommendations provided, it is recommended, among other things, to change the name "list of freshwater fish and crustaceans of aquaculture interest in the continental, coastal, and oceanic waters of our country" to "List of species of aquaculture interest intended for consumption and commercialization".
7-Whereas, according to what was requested of the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission, an analysis was performed of an excel matrix provided by the Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development which included 234 species, which were subjected to a review process culminating in a total of 184 species from diverse groups.
8-Whereas, in the analysis performed by the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission, in Pronouncement No. 01, it is proposed to separate the 184 species into four categories: No objection, with restriction, requires more studies, not suitable.
9-Whereas, having analyzed the foregoing and after deliberation, the Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture, POR TANTO; AGREES 1- To approve the change of name of the list of species contained in table number 05 of agreement AJDIP-289-2017, denominated "List of freshwater fish and crustaceans of aquaculture interest in the continental, coastal, and oceanic waters of our country", to the new denomination proposed by the Technical Scientific Coordination Commission: "List of species of aquaculture interest intended for consumption and commercialization".
2- To modify Board of Directors Agreement AJDIP/289-2017, specifically in its Table No. 5, and to approve the new "List of species of aquaculture interest intended for consumption and commercialization", in accordance with the tables detailed below:

ACUERDA 1- Aprobar el cambio de nombre de la lista de especies contenida en el cuadro número 05 del acuerdo AJDIP-289-2017, denominada "Lista de peces y crustáceos de agua dulce y de interés acuícola en las aguas continentales, costeras y oceánicas de nuestro país", por la nueva denominación propuesta por la Comisión de Coordinación Científica Técnica: "Lista de especies de interés acuícola con objetivo para consumo y comercialización".
2- Modificar el Acuerdo de Junta Directiva AJDIP/289-2017, específicamente en su Cuadro N° 5 y aprobar la nueva "Lista de especies de interés acuícola con objetivo para consumo y comercialización"., de conformidad con los cuadros que se detalla a continuación:
