For the fulfillment of their purposes and functions, the Aredes shall have a basic organizational structure composed of an assembly that, in turn, shall be composed of representatives with decision-making power from the productive sector, civil society, public academia and private academia, the municipalities, public institutions, and the territorial councils (consejos territoriales). Said assembly shall meet at least once a year.
Likewise, they shall have a board of directors (directorio) composed as follows:
- Three representatives of the Executive Branch, appointed by the President of the Republic, with decision-making power.
- Three mayors (alcaldes or alcaldesas) from the cantons of the region.
- The presidencies of the territorial councils (consejos territoriales) of the region, pursuant to Law 9036, Transformation of the Instituto de Desarrollo Agrario (IDA) into the Instituto de Desarrollo Rural (Inder), of May 11, 2012.
- One representative from public academia.
- One representative from private academia.
- Three representatives from private sector organizations with regional impact and from different sectors.
- Two representatives from civil society organizations with regional impact and from different sectors.
Each of the positions may have an alternate, who may attend in the absence of the proprietary member. In the composition of the board of directors (directorio), equitable gender representation must be respected.
The presidency and the vice-presidency of the Aredes shall be occupied by a person elected by simple majority of the total of its members, who shall exercise the position for two years, and may be reelected for a maximum of two consecutive periods. Both positions may not be occupied by active officials of the Executive Branch.
