The Environmental Diagnostic Study (Estudio de Diagnóstico Ambiental) is a voluntary application instrument. It may be used for activities in operation that request an Environmental Permit (Permiso Ambiental), which meet the following conditions:
- a)Activities, works, or projects that began prior to January 17, 1997, the date on which the first environmental impact assessment regulation was promulgated in accordance with the parameters established in the Organic Environmental Law.
- b)Activities, works, or projects whose execution began between February 12, 2002, and June 24, 2004, inclusive, a period during which the environmental impact assessment regulation was partially suspended by the Constitutional Chamber.
- c)Activities, works, or projects that did not require an Environmental Impact Assessment (Evaluación de Impacto Ambiental), and which, for reasons of convenience, voluntarily require undergoing an environmental permit (permiso ambiental) process.
- d)Activities, works, or projects that, as a result of an administrative or judicial sanctioning process, require obtaining an environmental permit (permiso ambiental).
