in the entirety of the text - Complete Standard Text 0 Technical Standard for Geographic Information NTIG_CR04_01.2016: Official Profile of Geographic Metadata of Costa Rica NTIG_CR04_01.2016: OFFICIAL PROFILE OF GEOGRAPHIC METADATA OF COSTA RICA VERSION 1.1 Foreword I am pleased to present the Technical Standard for Geographic Information of Costa Rica (NTIG_CR04) called the Official Profile of Geographic Metadata of Costa Rica, updated version, which aims to capture the information requirements for geographic data for the production and publication of geospatial information in our country.
It is aligned with the requirements of the National Territorial Information System (Sistema Nacional de Información Territorial, SNIT), as well as with the technical considerations defined by the National Geographic Institute as fundamental elements.
We hope that the official metadata profile will be an instrument that allows for the description of data, reports on its content, offers the user the possibility of having traceability regarding its origin (sources, author, etc.), and facilitates the search for geographic information in a quick and efficient manner.
From the geographic perspective, whether with respect to producers, managers, and/or users of geographic information, at present metadata are characterized by a connection with geospatial data and information, in alignment as part of the fundamental regulations required within the context of a geospatial data infrastructure.
In this way, metadata are of great importance for individuals and organizations, both public and private, that use and produce geospatial data, in order to find the data they need, determine the best way to use them, and have the appropriate tool to publicize them.
The Official Profile of Geographic Metadata of Costa Rica has its origin in the exercise of fulfilling the legal competencies of the National Geographic Institute in matters of standardization, generation, and standardization of geospatial information. This first version is an initiative that will facilitate the exchange of inter-institutional information, in addition to promoting in a precise and orderly manner the dissemination and use of geographic data. Our position is inclusive and open regarding the contributions of the community that produces, manages, and uses geospatial information at the national level.
Furthermore, the definition and dissemination of this document is in accordance with the guidelines established in decree No. 37773-JP-H-MINAE-MICITT (La Gaceta No. 134 of July 12, 2013), through which the National Territorial Information System (SNIT) is officially created as an instrument for the production, publication, regulation, and standardization of geospatial information in our country. Through the SNIT, the IGN is promoting the generation of georeferenced geographic products, services, and information of national, regional, and local coverage, and the publication in an integrated and georeferenced manner of territorial information produced by public entities and bodies, as well as by natural or legal persons, and the homologation of standardized geospatial information within the framework of a common spatial data infrastructure.
The SNIT is a very important step in the process of consolidating the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Costa Rica (IDECORI), which is defined as the set of policies, organizations, standards, and technologies that work jointly to produce, share, and use the geographic information necessary to support the country's development in various fields.

Desde la perspectiva geográfica, ya sea con respecto a productores, gestores y/o usuarios de información geográfica, en la actualidad los metadatos se caracterizan por una conexión con los datos e información geoespacial, en alineamiento como parte de la normativa fundamental requerida dentro del contexto de una infraestructura de datos geoespaciales.
De esta manera, los metadatos son de gran importancia para las personas y organizaciones, tanto públicas como privadas, que utilizan y producen datos geoespaciales, para encontrar los datos que necesitan, determinar la mejor forma de utilizarlos y disponer de la herramienta adecuada para publicitarlos.
El Perfil Oficial de Metadatos Geográficos de Costa Rica tiene su origen en el ejercicio del cumplimiento de las competencias de Ley del Instituto Geográfico Nacional en materia de normalización, generación y estandarización de la información geoespacial. Esta primera versión es una iniciativa que nos facilitará el intercambio de informaciones interinstitucionales, además de promover de una manera precisa y ordenada la difusión y uso de los datos geográficos. Nuestra posición es inclusiva y abierta en cuanto a los aportes de la comunidad productora, gestora y usuaria de información geoespacial en el ámbito nacional.
Además, la definición y difusión de este documento está en concordancia con los lineamientos establecidos en el decreto N.° 37773-JP-H-MINAE-MICITT (La Gaceta N.° 134 del 12 julio de 2013), mediante el cual oficialmente se crea el Sistema Nacional de Información Territorial (SNIT) como instrumento para la producción, publicación, normativa y estandarización de la información geoespacial en nuestro país. A través del SNIT el IGN está promoviendo la generación de productos, servicios e información geográfica georreferenciada de cubrimiento nacional, regional y local, y la publicación en forma integrada y georreferenciada de información territorial producida por entes y órganos públicos, así como por personas físicas o jurídicas, y el homologar la información geoespacial estandarizada en el marco de una infraestructura de datos espaciales común.
El SNIT es un paso muy importante en el proceso de consolidación de la Infraestructura de Datos Espaciales de Costa Rica (IDECORI), que se define como el conjunto de políticas, organizaciones, estándares y tecnologías que trabajan de forma conjunta para producir, compartir y usar la información geográfica necesaria para apoyar el desarrollo del país en diversos ámbitos.
