7384 of March 16, 1994, Law Creating the Costa Rican Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture, No. 8436 of March 1, 2005, Fisheries and Aquaculture Law, INCOPESCA is responsible for coordinating the fisheries and aquaculture sector, promoting and ordering the development of fishing, maritime hunting, and aquaculture; likewise, fostering, on the basis of technical and scientific criteria, the conservation, exploitation, and sustainable use of the biological resources of the sea and of aquaculture, as well as regulating the rational exploitation of fishery resources, aimed at achieving greater economic returns and the protection of marine and aquaculture species.
