…in the entirety of the text - Full Text of Norma 39072 Declares the “Feria Nacional del Pejibaye” to be of public and national interest Full Text record: 105287 No. 39072-MAG-C THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK, AND THE MINISTER OF CULTURE AND YOUTH In use of the powers conferred upon them by articles 89, 140 subsections 3), 18), and 20), and 146 of the Political Constitution, articles 25, 27 first subsection, 28 second paragraph subsection b) of Law No. 6227 of May 2, 1978, General Law of Public Administration, Law No. 7064 of April 29, 1987, Law for the Promotion of Agricultural Production, which incorporates the Organic Law of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and Law No. 8916 of December 16, 2010, Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

1That the Feria Nacional del Pejibaye has been held for 21 years in the community of Tucurrique de Cartago and each year it is visited by more than 15 thousand people, both from Costa Rica and from other countries.
2That in the area there are 150 producers dedicated to the cultivation of pejibaye, whose fruit is used to make flours and by-products such as creams, pastries, dressings, breadings, beverages, among others.
3That part of the proceeds from the aforementioned activity is invested in infrastructure and in improvements for the community.
4That the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, by provision of Law No. 7064, is the Rector of the Agricultural Sector, which was constituted as a means to strengthen and streamline the national direction and planning system, as well as to contribute to the coordination of Government activities and those of its institutions. 1Que la Feria Nacional del Pejibaye se celebra desde hace 21 años en la comunidad de Tucurrique de Cartago y cada año la visitan más de 15 mil personas, tanto de Costa Rica como de otros países.
2Que en la zona hay 150 productores dedicados al cultivo de pejibaye, cuya fruta se utiliza para las elaboraciones de harinas y subproductos como cremas, reposterías, aderezos, empanizados, bebidas entre otros.
3Que parte de lo recaudado de la mencionada actividad, se invierte en infraestructura y en mejoras para la comunidad.
4Que el Ministro de Agricultura y Ganadería por disposición de la Ley Nº 7064, es el Rector del Sector Agropecuario, que fue constituido como un medio para fortalecer y agilizar el sistema de dirección y planificación nacional, así como para coadyuvar a la coordinación de las actividades del Gobierno y de sus instituciones. En esa condición el Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería tiene la responsabilidad de atender los problemas que afectan las actividades agropecuarias y de fomentar la producción de bienes agropecuarios, mediante el estímulo de productores. Por tanto,

Artículo 1 — To declare of public and national interest the "Feria Nacional del Pejibaye", which is held from September 25 to October 6 of each year in Tucurrique de Cartago.

Artículo 2 — To declare the pejibaye in its native varieties (indigenous and creole) and the traditions, agro-cultural and culinary practices, uses, knowledge, flavors, and colors associated with it, as Cultural Heritage of Costa Rica.

Artículo 3 — The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, within the framework of its competencies, shall provide agricultural extension to pejibaye producers for crop improvement.

Artículo 5 — It shall enter into force upon its publication.
