"Article 1—Declare as a Protected Area under the category and name 'Montes Submarinos Marine Management Area' the marine space consisting of 9640 km2, located in the Pacific Ocean, in the marine zone bounded by the following geographic coordinates: W 87º00' and N 6º08'; W 86º26' and N 5º44'; W 87º17' and N 4º47'; W 88º00' and N 4º58'; with the exception of the area covered by Isla del Coco National Park created by Executive Decree No. 8748-A ratified by Law number 6794 of August 25, 1982, which encompasses the insular territory of Isla del Coco and the distance of up to 12 nautical miles around the Island, measured from the low-water line of the coast according to Executive Decree number 29834-MINAE of August 23, 2001."
