The Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza, hereinafter CATIE, is a Civil Association of a scientific and educational nature, with its own legal personality, domiciled in the city of Turrialba, Province of Cartago, Costa Rica, being empowered to establish special domiciles, for specific businesses, within and outside the country, established through the Contract signed between the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica, hereinafter the Government, and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, hereinafter IICA; approved by Law No. 6873 of June 17, 1983, of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Costa Rica.
Said Contract was modified in April 1986 by the Governing Board of CATIE and the modifications were approved by the Junta Interamericana de Agricultura, JIA, at its Extraordinary Meeting in Mexico, in October of the same year, and its Ordinary Meeting in Ottawa, in September 1987, with the same modifications entering into force on January first, 1988. It was also modified in 1991 by the Governing Board of CATIE; the modifications were approved by the JIA in September 1991, at the ordinary meeting held in Madrid, Spain, with the same modifications entering into force in March 1992. It was modified in 1993 by the JIA at the Ordinary Meeting held in Mexico City, and in 1997 at its Ordinary Meeting held in Santiago, Chile. On July 9, 1999, at the III Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers, the new constitutive contract of CATIE was approved through Resolution 4-99/III RECM. The same was approved on July 30, 1999, at the XIX Ordinary Meeting of the Executive Committee of the IICA acting on behalf of the JIA. This new Contract was approved by the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Costa Rica, through Law Number 8028, and published on October 12, 2000.
