a. Serve as a coordinating, conciliatory and liaison body between the ministries, state and non-state public institutions, and municipalities, which have a role in the issues and the search for viable and sustainable alternatives for the proper management of solid waste.
b. Coordinate the follow-up that must be given to the commitments acquired as a consequence of its activity.
c. Identify the different elements generating the problem in order to define an integral solution to the solid waste problem.
d. Propose policies regarding solid waste management in the country.
e. Draft a biannual national action plan to address the issue of integral solid waste management.
- f)Recommend guidelines for the design, implementation, and respective evaluation, of an integral system for solid waste management in the country.
- g)Promote research into new technologies and practices regarding solid waste management.
- h)Develop discussion forums on the topic of solid waste management and environmental protection.
- i)Establish strategic alliances with institutions, municipalities and organizations, whether national or international, to obtain technical and financial cooperation for the financing of various activities on solid waste management.
- j)Those which, being pertinent to the subject, are assigned by the Minister of Health.
