1. Agrochemical: A synthetically produced molecule with a specific action, used for the benefit of crops.
2. Sustainable processing: Process that processes the coffee bean coming from a sustainable coffee plantation, and which is carried out according to the specifications of this regulation.
3. Green Coffee: Unroasted coffee.
4. Sustainable Coffee: A viable economic model that addresses the social and environmental needs of all participants in the coffee supply chain, from the producer to the consumer, complying with the principles stipulated in Chapter I.
5. Certification: It is the procedure by which official certification entities, or officially recognized certification entities, provide written or equivalent assurance that the production units (unidades productivas) conform to the requirements established in this regulation.
6. Marketing: The holding or display for sale, offering for sale, delivery, or any other form of introduction to the market.
7. Soil conservation: It is any action aimed at reducing or eliminating soil erosion.
8. Elaboration or processing: Operations of transformation, packing, preservation, and packaging of agricultural products.
9. Inspection: The work of evaluating, visiting, supervising, or verifying the sustainable nature of production and processing, the processes, or the appropriate facilities for the same, carried out by an inspector at the request of ICAFE, the Service, the producer, or the processor.
10. Sustainable Coffee Inspector: An individual, duly recognized by the Service and also trained to carry out inspections aimed at granting sustainable certification, at the farm, processing plant, procedure, and marketing stages.
11. Ministry: Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
12. Operator: An individual or legal entity that participates in any stage of the Sustainable Coffee certification process (producer, processor, exporter, or marketer).
13. Production: The operations carried out in the production unit (unidad productiva) for obtaining, processing, and/or marketing sustainable coffee.
14. Recycling: Subjecting a used material to a process so that it can be reused.
15. Registry: Database administered by the Service, relating to sustainable coffee production farms, sustainable coffee processors, marketers, and Sustainable Coffee Inspectors.
16. Seed: Any grain, tuber, bulb, or any living part of the plant used to reproduce a species.
17. Service: The State Phytosanitary Service 18. Sustainability: It is that development or process that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
19. Production Unit (Unidad Productiva): Farm, plot, processing plants (beneficios), warehouse, and/or establishment where activities of production, processing, storage, and/or marketing of sustainable coffee are carried out.
