The province of San José comprises the cantons of San José, Escazú, Desamparados, Puriscal, Tarrazú, Aserrí, Mora, Goicoechea, Santa Ana, Alajuelita, Coronado, Acosta, Tibás, Moravia, Montes de Oca, Turrubares, Dota, Curridabat, Pérez Zeledón, and León Cortés.
The province of Alajuela comprises the cantons of Alajuela, San Ramón, Grecia, San Mateo, Atenas, Naranjo, Palmares, Poás, Orotina, San Carlos, Alfaro Ruiz, and Valverde Vega, (*)Upala, (*)Los Chiles, (*)Guatuso, Río Cuarto(**) (*) (Pursuant to Article 1 of Law No. 4541 of March 17, 1970, the preceding Cantons were created. Likewise, said regulation indicated that the district of Venado is assigned to the canton of San Carlos, with the limits described in Article 5 of the aforementioned law.)

The Province of Puntarenas comprises the cantons of Puntarenas, Esparta, Buenos Aires, Montes de Oro, Osa, Aguirre (Quepos)(****), Golfito, Coto Brus, Parrita(*), Corredores(**), Garabito(***), Monteverde(*****), Puerto Jiménez(******) (*) (Pursuant to Article 1 of Law No. 4787 of July 5, 1971, the Canton of Parrita was created.)
