1997 PROTOCOL AMENDING THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE PREVENTION OF POLLUTION FROM SHIPS, 1973, AS MODIFIED BY THE 1978 PROTOCOL THE PARTIES TO THE PRESENT PROTOCOL, BEING Parties to the 1978 Protocol relating to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, RECOGNIZING the need to prevent and control air pollution (contaminación atmosférica) caused by ships, RECALLING Principle 15 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in favour of the application of the precautionary approach, CONSIDERING that the most effective way of achieving this objective is the conclusion of a 1997 Protocol amending the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the 1978 Protocol, AGREE:
