Considering:
Subaquatic fishing using autonomous diving equipment such as oxygen tanks or semi-autonomous equipment such as compressors is not permitted."
Jeannette Pérez Blanco was accepted, through which it was requested to obtain scientific technical criteria on the possibility of modifying the wording of Article 4 of AJDIP/098-2017, in order to determine an exception to the prohibition of fishing by means of tank diving, to be applicable only to those tournaments destined for the fishing of Lionfish in the Costa Rican Caribbean.
Erick Umaña Vargas, Head of the Huetar Caribe Regional Office and endorsed by Mr. Miguel Durán Delgado, Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Management, the requested scientific technical criteria is issued, in which it is noted that the lionfish (Pterois volitans) is famous for its voracious eating habits and high reproduction rate, and currently lives on the Caribbean coasts, thus representing a threat to commercially valuable marine species that inhabit the coasts of Limón such as lobsters, shrimp, and snappers.
